Fish & ShellfishFish and shellfish is sourced daily by Matthew Colchester who has a well deserved reputation for cooking and serving creative food using fresh local ingredients. Matthew and Nicola Colchester deservedly won the Food Personality of the Year in Aylsham Agricultural Show's Food Hero's competition in 2014. Previous awards include a Local Food Heroes Award in 2009 and in 2010 The Recruiting Sergeant was a finalist in the Norfolk Food Awards for the category of Norfolk's Best Dish.
Our wet fish bar stocks a mixture of fish and shellfish in season. Fish will come from small artisan fisheries around the coast as well as Coles of Lowestoft who have been supplying Colchester Inns for over twenty years.
Our aim is to make fresh fish, smoked fish and seafood as easy as possible for customers to enjoy by offering free advice on choice, preparation and cooking. Fish is healthy and tastes great!
Oven ready fish dishes in stock may include Cod Thermidor, Smoked Haddock Florentine, Monkfish, Garlic & Parma Ham, Luxury Fish Pie, Prawn Skewers with Ginger, Chili and Lime and our ever popular Fish Cakes.
Fresh fish sold will depend on the season and what's fresh on the day. Some examples include:
Fresh fish - herring, mackerel, plaice, Dover sole, halibut, wild seabass, cod and skate
Shellfish - Kevin Jonas from Cromer is now supplying our crabs and lobsters, cockles, local Brancaster mussels, crayfish and oysters to order.
Smoked fish - kippers, spratts, haddock and salmon
